Westwheel 5 Pre-ride, San Francisco to Portland, ~800 miles!
Last year, we packed our sack, jumped on our electric unicycle, and pointed toward Los Angeles. This year, it’s Portland.
We depart Sunday on this ~800-mile journey to share vision and raise awareness for the personal electric vehicle as viable individual transportation. If life matches plan, we arrive Saturday, Aug. 6 in Portland, just in time for Westwheel 5 from Aug. 9 to 14.
We believe in a car-free future, a vision which eschews tons of wasteful metal and plastic to comfortably and safely convey ourselves from A to B, while slashing our spatial and energy consumption footprint and enjoying the hell out of life.
trip like this isn’t just a social statement, it’s a tremendous mental and physical challenge backed by truly max levels of pleasure and enjoyment. For reasons I don’t entirely understand, but but absolutely appreciate, riding an EUC delivers pinnacle pleasure, a source of stimulation nearly unmatched on this plane. The minimal vehicle merges into your body and mind to create an addictive state of supercapability.
We will publish livestreams and updates here to Facebook and other social channels to share as much of this journey with as many as we can. Next year, maybe you join us!

PEVRA’s goal is to increase awareness and demonstrate the capabilities of modern micromobility solutions within our transportation infrastructure.
Along the way to Los Angeles, PEVRA will host the public for its Jump On! electric unicycle demo and training tour. From Sunday, Oct. 17 to Wed., Oct. 20, riders on the PEVRA Jump On! Tour, sponsored by eWheels, REV Rides, and Alien Rides, will make the following stops in central coastal California:
- Sun. 10/17 9 a.m. Sendoff Berryessa BART Media coverage (KCBS Radio)

Westwheel 4 begins Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 with an open house and workshops at event sponsor PEV Works before a sunset ride along the San Francisco Waterfront to the Golden Gate Bridge.
Wednesday opens with a North Bay Trail Ride hosted by event sponsor Clark Pads in Santa Rosa. This trail ride offers an off-road riding workshop plus guided options for beginner and intermediate/advanced riders. After lunch, we’ll ride back to Santa Rosa then later meet up at Stinson Beach along the Marin County coast for a ride up mixed-use roads to Mt. Tamalpais, then cruise back to Stinson for sunset.
Thursday we start at the Emeryville Marina for an East Bay ride over the bike path on the Bay Bridge, into Oakland, through Emeryville and the Berkeley Marina, Richmond then back to the Emeryville Marina.
Friday morning’s ride is hosted by Rated.E Occasions, who will guide us across the Peninsula including the San Francisco Bay Trail, San Francisco Airport, Pacifica Pier, and more. Then, recharge and drive to the South Bay for our night ride, joining the San Jose Bike Party for their friendly, monthly jaunt through the Bay Area’s biggest city.
We meet up Saturday for the largest riding event of the entire week, hosted by PEVRA, BAESK8 and PEV Works. Help bring awareness to PEV inclusion on our roadways and infrastructure by joining the largest gathering of PEV ever on the west coast! Starting with training and workshops at 10 a.m., we will roll out for the Embarcadero and Fisherman’s Wharf at 1 p.m.
Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., paid registration will be required and limited for the 1st Annual PEVRA Awards & Dinner. For the first time, PEVRA will recognize members of the PEV community for excellence and their contributions, including Safety Hero of 2021, Rider(s) of the Year, and more.
Westwheel 4 wraps Sunday with a sunrise ride through the empty, pre-dawn street of San Francisco to Twin Peaks. After the ride, enjoy a picnic and barbecue with free food and refreshments courtesy of PEVRA members and Westwheel 4 sponsors including Clark Pads, PEV Works, BAESK8 and Alien Rides.
Other than the optional awards dinner, all Westwheel 4 events are 100% free and open to all! Participants are encouraged to consider a PEVRA membership to help support events like Westwheel and advocacy for safety, legality and inclusion of PEV everywhere.
All riders who wish to participate in Westwheel 4 are required to wear a helmet on all public roads and trails. The use of safety gear and pads including knee, elbow and wrist guards is strongly encouraged. Responsible, safe riding is mandatory at PEVRA riding events. Do not attempt to engage in dangerous or irresponsible riding at PEVRA riding events.
Public health guidance must be followed by all Westwheel 4 attendees, including any rules regarding face coverings or Covid-19 vaccinations. Current health guidance in San Francisco requires vaccination for indoor venues like restaurants. Bring evidence of vaccination to participate in any indoor events or gatherings.
