Westwheel 8 – Yosemite Adventure
Yosemite National Park
Mariposa County Fairgrounds (RV’s and trailers)
Tue. Jun. 17 – Sun., Jun. 22, 2025
Register today for free Westwheel 8 tickets!
The most adventurous Westwheel ever arrives in Yosemite National Park this June! Now in our eighth year, the longest-running EUC riding event in the United States will feature six days of epic riding for beginner, intermediate and experienced riders, showcasing some of the most beautiful scenery in the West.
Daily rides will include excursions with picturesque views of Yosemite’s most famous landmarks including El Capitan, Half Dome, and Yosemite Falls, while sunset and sunrise rides will showcase stunning dawn and dusk vistas from Tunnel View and Prady’s Viewpoint. And this year’s ‘Insane’ two-day distance ride, also available as a shorter ride for intermediate riders, will explore Mono Lake, the ghost town of Bodie, and travertine hot springs on an unforgettable journey into California’s past.
As always, Westwheel 8 is completely free, and open to all! For the first time, we are asking attendees to register for free tickets to best serve everyone’s needs. Beyond the published Westwheel 8 activities, travel and accommodations are the responsibility of each attendee. Some recommendations for lodging below are made for your convenience.
Register today for FREE: https://pevra.betterworld.org/events/westwheel-8
Where appropriate, some rides and destinations are recommended for intermediate or advanced riders only. Also, some rides will require certain minimum battery capacity or charging capability. All rides and Westwheel 8 events require the use of helmets and appropriate protective gear.
Yosemite National Park access
Most Westwheel 8 rides will originate and be contained within Yosemite National Park. National Park Service entry fees are required of all visitors who enter in vehicles, or on EUC.
NPS Fees: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/fees.htm
Drivers into Yosemite pay $35 per vehicle to enter the park. This fee covers three consecutive days of access. If you drive into the park and attend all six days of Westwheel, consider the value of an annual “America The Beautiful” pass for $80, with unlimited access to all National Parks for one year.
“America the Beautiful” Pass Info: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/fees.htm#america-the-beautiful-passes
*** UPDATE 5/1/25 *** Yosemite has announced the reinstatement of a reservation system to enter the Park during peak times, including during Westwheel 8. If you plan on staying outside the Park and driving into Yosemite, you will need a reservation. If you have a reservation for lodging or camping in the Park (including Camp 4 or Lower Pines, below) then you do not need a separate reservation to enter the park. We do advise entering the Park as early as you can. Delays of up to two hours entering the park can be routine, and, due to reduced staffing this summer, nobody knows exactly what to expect. Plan accordingly: Leave early and be prepared for delays. We hope not.
Yosemite Reservations https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm
If you ride your EUC into Yosemite (see notes on that ride below), identify as a bicycle (as described in CVC 313.5) when you check in to qualify for a $20 single person entry fee. Or, consider the $80 “America The Beautiful” pass, which includes your entry fee and that of three companions. Former or current military members qualify for a free annual pass at all National Parks.
Another option for entering the park is public transit. The 2-hour-plus ride from Mariposa is $12 from Mariposa, and riders have successfully stowed EUC as luggage on this route in the past.
Public Transit into Yosemite: https://www.yarts.com/bus_routes/highway-140/
Lodging/Accommodations
For accommodations outside the park, PEVRA has arranged with the Mariposa County Fairgrounds in Mariposa, Calif. to set aside campsites and RV spots for Westwheel 8 visitors. Camp spots are $35 per site, and RV sites are $55. All sites include household electric outlets for charging EUCs. Reservations must be arranged directly with the Fairgrounds.
Mariposa County Fairgrounds: https://www.mariposafair.com/camping
Lodging in Yosemite is incredibly expensive and sells out many months in advance. Hotel rooms nearby Yosemite, in Mariposa or El Portal, start around $150 per night.
Mariposa Hotels (Hotels.com): https://t.ly/TWiTj
Westwheel 8 attendees are encouraged to pursue camping accommodations in Yosemite at Lower Pines Campground, or Camp 4. The reservation window for Westwheel 8 campsites is May 15 for Lower Pines, and June 10 for Camp 4.
Yosemite Camping: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camping.htm
Lower Pines sites for Jun. 17 – 22 will be made available by the NPS on May 15 at 7 a.m. PDT for $36/night camping, and $60/night RV (non-electric). Note that Lower Pines sites are in extreme demand, and competing for reservations precisely when they open will likely be necessary to secure space at Lower Pines.
Lower Pines Camping Reservations: https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232450
Camp 4 sites are made available seven (7) days before the reservation date, also at 7 a.m. PDT. Camp 4 costs $10/person per night. Camp 4 reservations are also under extreme demand, and precise coordination is generally needed to secure a spot.

Charging in Yosemite
Yosemite has abundant Level 2 EV chargers, most powered by the Rivian Waypoints Network. As one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, however, charging during daytime can be challenging, or present a wait. Westwheel 8 riders should bring fast chargers to ensure the most efficient use of limited charging resources.
Charging on the “insane” distance ride is crucially important. To complete the full ride, a minimum charging rate (and capable fast charger) of 18A will be required, with 20A+ recommended.

Most riders would be advised to charge at the Rivian Waypoints station at El Portal. Riders should allow around three hours to complete this ride in either direction (including charging). From Mariposa it is around 2 hours to El Portal and about 1 hour from there into the Valley. Also, allow at least for one hour of charging time at least in the Valley upon arrival.

Westwheel 5 Pre-ride, San Francisco to Portland, ~800 miles!
Last year, we packed our sack, jumped on our electric unicycle, and pointed toward Los Angeles. This year, it’s Portland.
We depart Sunday on this ~800-mile journey to share vision and raise awareness for the personal electric vehicle as viable individual transportation. If life matches plan, we arrive Saturday, Aug. 6 in Portland, just in time for Westwheel 5 from Aug. 9 to 14.
We believe in a car-free future, a vision which eschews tons of wasteful metal and plastic to comfortably and safely convey ourselves from A to B, while slashing our spatial and energy consumption footprint and enjoying the hell out of life.
trip like this isn’t just a social statement, it’s a tremendous mental and physical challenge backed by truly max levels of pleasure and enjoyment. For reasons I don’t entirely understand, but but absolutely appreciate, riding an EUC delivers pinnacle pleasure, a source of stimulation nearly unmatched on this plane. The minimal vehicle merges into your body and mind to create an addictive state of supercapability.
We will publish livestreams and updates here to Facebook and other social channels to share as much of this journey with as many as we can. Next year, maybe you join us!

PEVRA’s goal is to increase awareness and demonstrate the capabilities of modern micromobility solutions within our transportation infrastructure.
Along the way to Los Angeles, PEVRA will host the public for its Jump On! electric unicycle demo and training tour. From Sunday, Oct. 17 to Wed., Oct. 20, riders on the PEVRA Jump On! Saturday night at 6:30 p.m., paid registration will be required and limited for the 1st Annual PEVRA Awards & Dinner. For the first time, PEVRA will recognize members of the PEV community for excellence and their contributions, including Safety Hero of 2021, Rider(s) of the Year, and more.
Westwheel 4 wraps Sunday with a sunrise ride through the empty, pre-dawn street of San Francisco to Twin Peaks. After the ride, enjoy a picnic and barbecue with free food and refreshments courtesy of PEVRA members and Westwheel 4 sponsors including Clark Pads, PEV Works, BAESK8 and Alien Rides.
Other than the optional awards dinner, all Westwheel 4 events are 100% free and open to all! Participants are encouraged to consider a PEVRA membership to help support events like Westwheel and advocacy for safety, legality and inclusion of PEV everywhere.
All riders who wish to participate in Westwheel 4 are required to wear a helmet on all public roads and trails. The use of safety gear and pads including knee, elbow and wrist guards is strongly encouraged. Responsible, safe riding is mandatory at PEVRA riding events. Do not attempt to engage in dangerous or irresponsible riding at PEVRA riding events.
Public health guidance must be followed by all Westwheel 4 attendees, including any rules regarding face coverings or Covid-19 vaccinations. Current health guidance in San Francisco requires vaccination for indoor venues like restaurants. Bring evidence of vaccination to participate in any indoor events or gatherings.
