Learn to ride
Jump On! is PEVRA’s free training for new riders. Volunteers have run it since 2018, in parks and on waterfront lots, and PEVRA’s own count is that hundreds of riders have learned at one. There is nothing to pay and nothing to bring except a helmet if you own one.
What a Jump On! session is
A few hours in a flat, open, traffic-free space with volunteer trainers who ride themselves. Wheels are provided — electric unicycles, and usually electric skateboards, scooters and Onewheels as well — so you do not have to own one to find out whether you like it. Bring your own if you have one and would rather learn on the machine you already ride.
Helmets are required of every rider at a Jump On! session, learners included. Bring yours if you have one; PEVRA keeps some on hand for people who do not.
The usual shape of it is a hand or a training bar to hold, and as many attempts as the session has room for. Some people are riding the length of the lot by the end of the afternoon and some are not.
How long it takes, and why this page will not give you a number
The version of this page that ran on PEVRA’s old site put a number on it. Nobody measured that. It was a good-faith impression from people who had watched a lot of first sessions, printed as though it were a finding, and this page does not repeat it as a promise.
What PEVRA can say is narrower and true: most people who come to a session are moving on a wheel with a trainer beside them before the session ends. How long that takes varies enormously — by age, by nerve, by whether you have ever skated or snowboarded — and PEVRA does not time anyone or keep a record of who took how long.
What replaces the number is a written definition of each stage of learning: plain “I can …” statements, so that a phrase like “ready to ride unsupervised” means the same thing to every trainer and can be checked against a rider rather than asserted about one. Those definitions are being drafted and are Phase 2 work on this site. None is published yet. When they are, they will be on this page, in full — PEVRA is not going to guess at them here in the meantime.

Where and when the next one is
The schedule is not on this page, and that is deliberate. This site is rebuilt from scratch overnight, so the page you are reading was written before today started; a Jump On! date can move inside a week when a park closes, a permit changes or the trainer who owns the spare wheels is ill. A page built last night has no business promising you a date next weekend.
The current schedule is kept on PEVRA’s Facebook Events page. The day-of details that never reach a schedule — the group has moved to the far end of the lot, the start slipped an hour — happen on PEVRA’s Telegram channel. If neither works for you, write to info@pevra.org and a volunteer will answer.
Training also runs inside Westwheel, PEVRA’s annual expedition week, which is where a good number of the sessions below happened.
Where it has run
Every Jump On! session PEVRA’s old site listed, newest first. It starts in San Francisco in July 2019 and runs to Crane Cove Park in August 2026. It is a record and not a schedule: none of these dates is coming round again.
