These terms cover pevra.org and its data. They are short, and the first one is the one that matters. Draft for review: these terms have not yet been read by a lawyer, and say so until they have. Last updated .

Nothing on this site is legal advice, and reading it does not make PEVRA your lawyer. Every legal status published here is a reading of the words a law uses, made by a volunteer, with the quoted clause, the official source, the date the source printed and the name of the person who read it, so that you or a lawyer can check it. It is not a prediction of what an officer, a prosecutor or a court will do. If a decision turns on it — a fine, a seizure, a charge — get advice from a lawyer licensed where you are.

What this site is

pevra.org is published by the Personal Electric Vehicle Riders Association (“PEVRA”, “we”), a California nonprofit corporation, at no charge. It holds legal records for personal electric vehicles by place, teaching and event information, model legislation, and community reports from riders. Using the site means you accept these terms; if you do not, do not use it.

Accuracy, and how to correct us

PEVRA tries hard to be right and publishes enough that you can tell when it is not. A status is shown only with the evidence behind it, a status with no evidence is shown as unverified rather than guessed, and every change to a legal claim is listed with its date at the change log. Laws change, sources move and volunteers make mistakes. If you find one, tell us; corrections are made in public and a retracted claim stays visible as retracted for ninety days. How verification works describes the whole process.

What you send us

When you send a community report, a correction, or an e-mail, you give PEVRA permission to use it to keep the site accurate: to publish aggregate figures built from reports, to act on a correction, and to keep the record of having done so. You keep ownership of what you wrote. You confirm that you have the right to send it and that it does not identify another person without their consent.

Community reports are published only as aggregates — counts and averages across riders — and never as an individual’s answers; a place’s figures appear only once enough riders have reported that no single report can be read out of them. A report you save while signed in can be edited or withdrawn by you. Nothing you send is sold, and the site carries no advertising.

The data and the API

The legal records are published as data at the API and in machine-readable feeds, and you may read and reuse them, with attribution to PEVRA and the record’s own source, on the same terms as the pages: they are not legal advice, they carry their dates and tiers, and stripping the evidence from a status misrepresents it. Automated access that degrades the site for others may be rate-limited or blocked.

Liability

The site is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a purpose and non-infringement. To the fullest extent the law allows, PEVRA and its volunteers are not liable for any loss arising from the site or from reliance on anything in it, including a legal status that turns out to be wrong or out of date. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you in full.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute is heard in the state or federal courts for San Francisco County. PEVRA may update these terms; a material change updates the date at the top of this page and is noted in the change log. Continued use after a change is acceptance of it.
